DONATIONS
Thank you to the Altura Development Committee for their generous donations for the flowers on main street. Also thank you to everyone that came out to support the Altura Fire Relief and Ambulance for their annual breakfast.

VOLUNTEERS
There are always opportunities to volunteer in the area. Please consider joining the City Ambulance or Fire Crew, Lion’s Club, and local churches. The City may also have other opportunities from time to time, let us know if you are available. Together great things happen.

ALTURA HOMETOWN FEST
Thank you to all who supported and participated in the Altura Hometown Fest this year. Special thank you to the Hometown Fest Committee!

STREET DECORATIONS
Thank you to the volunteers that have decorated for Fall in town. It looks great!

PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT
The new playground equipment has been installed at the School Park.

ALTURA AREA FARMERS MARKET
The Farmers Market was a success again this year. Thank you to all who supported the local venders.

UPDATE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION
Occassionally, we need to get in touch with you. We’d like to get your updated information. Please email your email address and phone number to cityclerk@cityofaltura.org. If you do not have an email address please call City Hall with your phone number – 507-796-5461. Periodically we will send you an email to keep you informed of what is happening in the City. If you choose not to be a part of that email group, we can remove you.

ELECTION
The General Election will be Tuesday, November 3. Polls will be open at City Hall from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you have not registered to vote, you can contact Winona County or register the day of the election. Election positions are Mayor – 2 year term and 2 Council Positions – 4 year terms.

TAX LEVY
The City Council approved for the 2027 tax levy a 9% increase from last year. This is disbursed to Funds as follows; General-$155,000, Fire-$6,000, Amb-$15,000, and Ball field/parks-$15,000.

IMPORTANT!! SNOW REMOVAL
The City will be reinforcing the snow removal ordinance again this year. If your sidewalk is not cleared of ice/snow, the City will hire it removed and the property owner will be bill $1/foot under 8” and $2/foot if over 8”. So please remove your snow to avoid any additional cost to you. Remember to move all vehicles/trailers off the street from Midnight to 7 a.m. for snow removal.

UTILITY SHEDS (Accessory Buildings)
Utility Shed are required to have a zoning permit. They cannot be closer than 12 feet to the principle structure, 10 feet from the rear lot line, exceed 10 feet in height. They must also be anchored. Please refer to the city website for all details in the codebook and for a permit application.

REMINDER – ORDINANCES
The ordinances are available on the city website. A few reminders:

  • The City Code does not allow unlicensed vehicles on your property.
  • Pet Licences are required.
  • Accessory Building require a zoning permit.
  • Building Permits are required.
  • No parking of bus, tractor, trailer, box truck, semi-tractor, semi-trailer, recreational vehicle (excluding ATV, UTV, and snowmobiles), boats, watercraft, motorhome, dump truck, commercial or industrial vehicle of any type on any street, alleyway, or roadway in any area in the City, except when such vehicle is engaged in loading, unloading, or rendering a service in the area involved. No unhitched trailers shall be allowed on any street, alleyway, or roadway.
  • All ordinances and our Code Book can be found on our website.

WATER/SEWER PAYMENTS
Payments are due by October 31. That means the payment MUST be dropped off at City Hall by 5 p.m. or deposited at Peoples State Bank by 4 p.m. on October 31. If payments aren’t received by then there will be a $40 late fee applied. For your convenience, you can pay your bill online 24/7 on our website at cityofaltura.org or automatically debit your checking/savings account. If you need a Direct Bill Form is available online at cityofaltura.org. Want to go paperless? Receive your invoice and newsletter directly to your email. Please provide your email address to cityclerk@cityofaltura.org.

BUILDING PERMITS
Apply online at wse.engineering/cms. Scroll to the map at the bottom of the page, click on Altura and it will pull the application. Most applications will be a maintenance item (reroof, reside, water heater). For help please contact me or Construction Management Services at 507-282-8206. This automated process will be timely, efficient, and you are able to pay online.

Water/Sewer Rates
Water:
0 – 5000 gal $35.00
5001-50000 gal $2.25/1000 gallons
50001 – 50000 gal $2.00/1000 gallons Over 500001 Gal $1.50/1000 gallons
Sewer: 2.65 times the water rate
